22nd June 2010 - MNP to publish Running Through Corridors by Shearman and Hadoke

Mad Norwegian Press has announced the forthcoming publication of Running Through Corridors, a three-volume series by Robert Shearman and Toby Hadoke.

This three-volume series sees Shearman and Toby Hadoke embark on an epic quest of friendship: spend the gap year of 2009 (when Doctor Who consisted of a handful of specials rather than a full season) re-watching the whole of Who two episodes a day, every day, from the show's start in 1963 and ending with David Tennant's swan song on New Year's 2010.

All told, this series contains Shearman and Hadoke's diary of that experience --- a grand opus of their wry observations about the show, their desire to see the good in every story, and their chronicle of the real-life changes to Who in that year.

With this series, Who fans will feel that they're watching along with Shearman (World Fantasy Award winner, Hugo Award nominee and writer on the new Doctor Who) and Hadoke (renowned stage performer for his one-man comedy show, Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf), as they make their grand journey through the world's most wonderful and longest-running drama series.

Volume 1 covers 1960s Doctor Who, Volume 2 will entail 70s Who, and Volume 3 will begin with 80s Who and end with the David Tennant specials.

Running Through Corridors Volume 1 is already available for pre-order on the likes of Amazon US; advance copies will be available at Chicago TARDIS in late November.

12th May 2010 - Shipping snafu with Time, Unincorporated 2; corrected packages in progress

Mad Norwegian Press has just learned that, owing to a clerical error, most contributors' copies and some customer copies ordered direct from Mad Norwegian were sent out as Volume 1 of Time, Unincorporated, not Volume 2.

The erroneous packages should be arriving in the next few days. Mad Norwegian does not expect anyone to send back the errant copies of Volume 1 --- if you don't own a copy already, please enjoy the freebie. Alternatively, if you already own one, please pass the extra copy along to a friend, library or suitable recipient.

Mad Norwegian Press has already submitted a corrected list to its fulfillment house --- new packages bearing Volume 2 should go out in the next few days. There is no doubt as to which contributors / customers were sent errant copies of Volume 1, so the matter is already being rectified.

Copies dispatched to editors Graeme Burk and Robert Smith were present and correct, so any contributor receiving a copy through them will soon receive Volume 2.

Mad Norwegian apologizes for the delay in contributors and customers receiving Volume 2, and hopes they enjoy the book.

6th May 2010 - Time, Unincorporated 2 shipping early...

Time, Unincorporated 2 --- the next installment of Mad Norwegian's fanzine archive series --- arrived much earlier from the printer than expected, and is shipping well in advance of its May 18 release date.

Subscriber and contributors' copies will be going in the mail very shortly. Copies are currently available from retailers such as Galaxy Four, Alien Entertainment, Who North America and Amazon US. Forbidden Planet should have stocks available shortly.

Amazon UK, as is their rather strange habit in the weeks just prior to a book's release, currently have Time, Unincorporated 2 listed as "Unavailable"; stocks will presumably be offered in a few weeks.

Mad Norwegian thanks its readers for their support, and hopes they enjoy the book.

10th April 2010 - Time, Unincorporated 2 TOC now online...

Mad Norwegian Press has made available the Table of Contents to Time, Unincorporated 2 in advance of the book's May publication. The book features about 75 essays on Doctor Who from about 48 contributors, including Simon Guerrier, Lou Anders, Jonathan Blum, Matt Jones and more. To view the Time, Unincorporated 2 Table of Contents, go here.

Chicks will still have a mainstream release date of March 15, and will ship through retailers such as Amazon at that time. Pre-orders placed through the Mad Norwegian website and contributors' copies will ship the first week of March.

The Second Edition of About Time 3 by Tat Wood has been nominated for a British Science Fiction Association award in the category of non-fiction, alongside such nominees as John Clute, Gwyneth Jones, China Mieville, Kim Stanley Robinson, Andy Butler, Michael Swanwick, Dave Langford, Edward James and Farah Mendelson.

16th October 2009 - Time, Unincorporated 2 due out in May 2010

Mad Norwegian Press has announced that Time, Unincorporated 2, the second in a series of fanzine article collections, will see print in May 2010. Previously titled "Classic Series Cornucopia," Volume 2 will actually see print under the title "Writings on the Classic Series," while the forthcoming Volume 3 will be "Writings on the New Series."

Volume 2 of this series contains nearly 75 essays that examine every era of the classic Doctor Who series that ran from 1963-1989, as well as the FOX TV movie (1996). The essays stem from a wide array of venerable fanzines such as Enlightenment, Shockeye’s Kitchen, Burnt Toast, Faze, Dark Circus, The Whostorian and more. Collectively, the essays derived from these sources form one of the most diverse compilations of Doctor Who writing ever produced.

As a bonus, ten of the essays were written exclusively for this volume by the likes of Matt Jones (Doctor Who: The Impossible Planet, Torchwood: Dead Man Walking), Simon Guerrier (The Slitheen Excursion), Pyr Books editorial director Lou Anders, and Jim Sangster (TV Heaven).

17th September 2009 - Mad Norwegian to publish Chicks Dig Time Lords

Mad Norwegian Press has announced the forthcoming publication of Chicks Dig Time Lords: A Celebration of Doctor Who by the Women Who Love It. For this essay collection, a host of award-winning female novelists, academics and actresses come together to celebrate the phenomenon that is Doctor Who, discuss their rather inventive involvement with the show’s fandom, and examine why they adore this series so much.

All told, this essay collection is designed to inform and delight male and female readers alike, and to examine some of the more extraordinary aspects of being a female Doctor Who enthusiast. Essay topics include Carole Barrowman (Anything Goes) discussing what it was like to grow up with her brother John (including the fact that he’s still afraid of shop-window dummies), longtime columnist Jackie Jenkins providing a memoir of her work on "Doctor Who Magazine," novelist Lloyd Rose (Camera Obscura) analyzing the changes in Rose between the ninth and tenth Doctors, and much more.

Other contributors to this essay collection include Elizabeth Bear (the Jenny Casey trilogy), Lisa Bowerman (star of the Bernice Summerfield audios), Mary Robinette Kowal (Shades of Milk and Honey), Seanan McGuire (Rosemary and Rue), Jody Lynn Nye (the Mythology series), Kate Orman (Seeing I), Catherynne M. Valente (The Orphan’s Tales), and more.

Also featured: a comic from Tammy Garrison and Katy Shuttleworth (Torchwood Babiez), plus interviews with India Fisher (Charley in the Doctor Who audios) and Sophie Aldred (Ace on Doctor Who, 1987-1989).

Mad Norwegian Press has announced that Wanting to Believe: A Critical Guide to The X-Files, Millennium and The Lone Gunmen by Robert Shearman has arrived from the printer. Meanwhile, Doctor Who: The Completely Unofficial Encyclopedia (the sequel to The Completely Useless Encyclopedia) by Chris Howarth and Steve Lyons has sold out, and a reprint is not planned at this time. Mad Norwegian's distributor still has some residual copies, which will be available to the likes of Amazon while supplies last. Allowing that no further stock will be forthcoming, however, anyone who still desires a copy of the Encyclopedia is encouraged to purchase one sooner rather than later.

19th February 2009 - Mad Norwegian to publish "But I Digress" collection by Peter David

Mad Norwegian Press has announced the forthcoming publication of More Digressions: A New Collection of But I Digress Columns by Peter David. The first compilation of its kind in 15 years, More Digressions collects about 100 essays from David's long-running But I Digress column for Comics Buyer's Guide. For this collection, David has personally selected But I Digress pieces written from 2001 to the present day, and also included many personal reflections and historical notes.

More Digressions retails for $24.95 and is scheduled for June 3rd release. It features a foreword by the legendary Harlan Ellison, as well as a cover by J.K. Woodward (Fallen Angel) spotlighting David's trademark creations Sir Apropos of Nothing, Fallen Angel and Sachs and Violens.

19th January 2009 - Mad Norwegian to publish Doctor Who fanzine archives; Parkin volume out in May

Mad Norwegian Press has announced the launch of Time, Unincorporated – a new series of books that will collect the best essays and commentary from a range of Doctor Who fanzines. In spirit, this series will pick up the torch from Virgin’s Licence Denied collection (1997), making some of the most delightful and strange fanzine writings available to a much wider audience.

Volume 1 of this series, due out in May, will collect 15 years of Doctor Who-related essays and articles by Lance Parkin. The cornerstone of this edition is a year-by-year survey and analysis of Doctor Who that Parkin wrote for the show’s 40th Anniversary of Doctor Who (here updated to the present), as well as a myriad of Parkin’s articles and columns from the fanzines Enlightenment and Matrix. Also included: Parkin’s original pitch for the celebrated Doctor Who novel The Infinity Doctors, his extensive advice on the art of writing, and more.

12th December 2008 - New About Time 3, X-Files book by Shearman out in May

In the About Time 3 Second Edition, Tat Wood vastly expands upon the discussion of the Jon Pertwee era of Doctor Who, bringing this installment of the About Time series up to the size and depth of its fellows. All told, this Second Edition has nearly three times the material of its predecessor.

Many existing essays and entries have been greatly retooled, and evidence from the new Doctor Who series (unbroadcast when this book was first published) has been taken into account. New essays in this edition include The Daemons: What the Hell Are They Doing?, Where Were Torchwood When All This Was Happening? and Is This Any Way to Run a Galactic Empire?.

Additionally, Mad Norwegian will be releasing a critical guide to The X-Files, Millennium and The Lone Gunmen by renowned Doctor Who writer Rob Shearman. Shearman critiques and examines all 282 X-Files-related episodes (as well as the two motion pictures), making this one of (if not the only) books to cover the entire X-Files TV canon.

Mad Norwegian intends to release two additional, and as yet unannounced, books in May (one on “Doctor Who”, the other on comic books) and hopes to unveil those projects in the next few weeks.

3rd November 2008 - Mad Norwegian switches to PayPal billing...

Mad Norwegian Press is shifting operations to let PayPal process website and subscription orders. This means that henceforth, anyone ordering from Mad Norwegian directly will, at time of purchase, need to submit their credit card details to PayPal's secure server (or just authorize payment from their PayPal account) for processing.

You do NOT need a PayPal account to keep ordering from Mad Norwegian Press (but it's probably a little faster if you do have one).

Neither Mad Norwegian nor PayPal will store your credit card information. Unfortunately, this means that customers without PayPal accounts will need to submit their credit card information to PayPal with every order. However, as Mad Norwegian hopes to group together books for release in 2009, we're hoping this won't be an undue hassle.

MNP subscribers / direct customers have been notified by e-mail as to how the new procedure will work. If you are an MNP subscriber / direct customer and have not received an e-mail about this, please let us know at MadNorwegian AT gmail.com, and we'll fill you in on the details.

Mad Norwegian thanks everyone who's ordered direct from us throughout the years --- it makes a big difference to our business operations, and we're duly grateful.
